Bart Scott has been a law enforcement officer for 23 years and a police instructor for 17 years. He has specialized in firearms and rifle as a Range Master for a prominent police department in the Dallas / Fort Worth Metroplex. Bart supervises the firearms and Taser training programs for the agency which he is employed and is a Master Taser Instructor. Through the years as an instructor, Bart has grown to love teaching firearm fundamentals and firearm safety to new recruits. When citizens approached officers about where to receive training for LTC, Bart was the first name to come up. He eventually gained his certification to teach the Texas License to Carry Course. With safety first, he also offers safe handling and gun cleaning training.
This is an introduction to Handguns, training course that will teach the basic knowledge, skills and attitude necessary for owning and using a handguns safely. This class is one-on-one with the instructor, which means the instructor is not required to maintain a rigid agenda and can focus on or add to areas of need as required by the student.
Topics covered will be Handgun Knowledge and Safety, Safe Storage at Home, Eye and Ear protection, Guns and Targets, Ammunition, Cleaning and Maintenance, Fundamentals of Shooting.
This class is designed for the people with little to no knowledge of handguns, or those who are years out of practice and want a good refresher course. The first portion of the course will be in the classroom discussing the different types of handguns and how to safely handle them. We will discuss the different calibers and ammunition of the most common firearms. You will learn the fundamentals of handgun shooting and cleaning and maintenance.
The second portion of the class will be spent on the shooting range shooting a variety of guns suitable for the shooter. We will discuss the recommended stance, proper sight picture, and trigger control.
This class is a minimum of 2 hours at $40 an hour plus range fee.
The LTC class is a minimum of 4 hours in the classroom and approximately an additional hour at the range for the proficiency portion of the class. The LTC class is not designed to accommodate persons with no knowledge of handguns. It is strongly encouraged that you attend a firearms introduction class prior to enrollment in the LTC Class. Students who attend the Firearms Fundamentals and Safety Course will get $30 off the LTC class.
If you have a group of five or more students and are willing to host, the class can be brought to you if the host location is within a 50 mile radius of Plano Texas. The Proficiency portion will be conducted at a shooting range near you.
A shooting center in NE Dallas is where BAS Defense hosts classes, including the Firearms Fundamentals and Safety Course.
License to Carry classes are $100 per person, range fees are included.
If the class is remotely hosted, students are responsible for individual range fees
If you need to complete the proficiency portion only, the fee is $40, range fee not included.
